​Online Course
​The Additional Qualification Course: First Nations, Mأ©tis and Inuit Peoples – Understanding Traditional Teachings, Histories, Current Issues and Cultures, Part II builds on concepts learned in Part 1 and employs a critical, pedagogical lens in order to implement these concepts into classroom practice in a holistic and integrated manner across the divisions. Part II was developed collaboratively with the leadership of First Nations, Mأ©tis and Inuit Knowledge Keepers, community members and educators and will also be co-facilitators of the course.

PART 1 or ABQ EQUIVALENT REQUIRED AS PREREQUISITE
*Preference will be given to those who have taken Part 1 with DPCDSB

Dates: This AQ course will run from April 9 - June 8, 2024

Tuesdays and Thursdays online using TEAMS from 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm

*no classes on May 21, 23
June 4, 6

Saturdays in person from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm

June 8 - Silver Creek Outdoor Education Center: 13500 Fallbrook Trail, Georgetown

APPLICATION:
Applicants are asked to complete the Application Form 
All applicants will need to submit a copy of their College of Teachers qualifications to jodie.williams@dpcdsb.org

PAYMENT:
Course Fee: $650 for anyone outside of Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board

Dufferin-Peel employees:
*Any secondary DPCDSB teacher teaching an “N-coded courseâ€‌ (Indigenous Studies) will have their course fees waived
*All other DPCDSB employees will have a reduced cost of $450

Payment MUST be received by April 2, 2024
A refund will be issued ONLY upon written request received by April 16, 2024. There will be no refund after this date.

Required Course Readings:
The Independent Professional Learning component requires course candidates to read two books. Course candidates will be required to provide their own copies of the following books: Colonized Classroom: Racisms, Trauma and Resistance in Post-Secondary Education by Sheila Cote-Meek, and Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg: This Is Our Territory by Doug Williams. Course participants are expected to obtain these books prior to the course starting.
