Month of October: A Marian Month
The month of October each year is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. This is primarily because the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7. It was instituted to honour the Blessed Virgin Mary in gratitude for the protection that she gives the Church in answer to the praying of the Rosary by the faithful. That is why Pope Francis has invited all the faithful to pray the Holy Rosary every day in October. Please use the following Litany of Mary of Nazareth to celebrate and honour our Blessed Mother. October/November 2024 - Secondary School Information Sessions for Prospective Students and Families
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) will hold a series of information sessions for prospective students and families interested in enrolling in a DPCDSB secondary school for the 2025-2026 school year. The information sessions will provide an overview of the programs and services offered at Dufferin-Peel Catholic secondary schools and will provide students and families with an opportunity to take a tour of the school and hear from current students about the transition into secondary school. Launch of B.E.S.T Spirit Wear e-Store
The B.E.S.T committee is excited to launch its first e-store powered by Talbots. The Black Excellence Success Team strives to advance the well-being of Black students, foster community relationships, and provide mentorship opportunities for our members. The new B.E.S.T logo designed by Emmanuella Olobade adorns new items that include notebooks, golf shirts, tumblers, hoodies, and more. The e-store closes on October 10, 2024 and all items will be shipped to St. Kevin C.E.S. for in-person pick-up at a date to be determined. This year’s Take Our Kids to Work Day is scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Take Our Kids to Work Day is an annual program in which Grade 9 students are hosted by parents, friends, relatives, or volunteers at workplaces across the country every November. The program supports career development by helping students connect school and the world of work. Spending a ‘day in the life’ of a profession or workplace is a fun and fascinating way to explore the world of work, think about career options, and make informed educational decisions.

November 8 - Indigenous Veterans Day
Did you know that November 8th is marked as Indigenous Veterans Day? For over years, Canadians have set aside the 11th Day of November to remember the sacrifices of soldiers who fought for Canada and the British Commonwealth in global conflicts that took place in foreign lands. Most Canadians are not aware of the contributions made by Indigenous Warriors in those military campaigns, nor of the crucial role they played during the War of 1812 -- the only war ever fought on Canadian soil. DPCDSB announces its 2024 Distinguished Alumni

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) has released its 11th annual Distinguished Alumni poster series featuring profiles of alumni who are making valuable and unique contributions in their respective careers, pathways, and communities. DPCDSB Distinguished Alumni also represent the image of the Catholic learner as described by the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations.

The Distinguished Alumni poster will be distributed to all Catholic schools and parishes in Dufferin-Peel.

This year's poster features six alumni, including a physician, actress/singer, artist/muralist, entrepreneur, chef and public service executive:

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) will hold a series of information sessions/open houses for prospective students and families interested in enrolling in a DPCDSB secondary school for the 2025-26 school year.

The information sessions will provide an overview of the programs and services offered at Dufferin-Peel Catholic secondary schools and will provide students and families with an opportunity to take a tour of the school and hear from current students about the transition into secondary school.

Currently, DPCDSB operates 26 Catholic secondary schools in Mississauga, Brampton, Bolton and Caledon. These schools continue to be recognized among the top performing schools in the province each year.

With over 50 Specialist High Skills Major programs, three regional Arts programs, one regional Sports program, three International Baccalaureate programmes, two regional Advanced Placement programs, Extended French and French Immersion programs, and the only publicly funded All-Girls secondary school in the region, DPCDSB schools offer students a variety of learning options to suit their individual education goals.

DPCDSB Top Ontario Scholars for 2023-24

Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board announces its Top Ontario Scholars for 2023-24

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board's (DPCDSB) top Ontario Scholar for the 2023-24 school year is Luke Sequeira from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga. Luke scored a perfect average of 100%. He is set to attend the University of Waterloo in the fall, where he has enrolled in the Computer Science program.

DPCDSB's top Ontario Scholar from a Brampton school is Megan Asquith from Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School, who graduated with an average of 99.3%. Megan has enrolled in Applied Science in Early Childhood Studies at the University of Guelph-Humber.

Sophia Sonsini from Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School is the top Ontario Scholar in the Bolton/Caledon/Orangeville area with a 98.8% average. Sophia will be studying Health Sciences at Queen's University.

"Congratulations to Luke, Megan and Sophia and all our Ontario Scholars for their remarkable achievements," said Marianne Mazzorato, Director of Education. "It takes tremendous dedication, focus and commitment on the part of these students to achieve this level of academic success. It is also a reflection of the support and guidance provided to them through their educators, parents and guardians, who inspired and encouraged them to prepare for post-secondary career pathways."

To be an Ontario Scholar, students must achieve an average of 80% or higher on their top six Grade 12 courses. This year, 3,933 DPCDSB graduates earned this distinction.

"This year, we recognize our 7,115 DPCDSB graduates who have fulfilled the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations and are ready to take on a new journey outside the familiar walls of their schools," added Marianne Mazzorato. "We are extremely proud of each and every one of them and wish them success and God's richest blessing as they move on to the next chapter in their lives."

DPCDSB Student Census

What is a Student Census?
The Student Census collects detailed information about students' demographics and experiences. In the 2021-2022 school year, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) conducted a student census for Grades 4-12 students. Parents or guardians completed the census for younger students (Kindergarten to Grade 3) and those with special needs who required assistance.

Why Conduct a Student Census?
Research has shown that systemic racism and discrimination exist in Ontario. To address these issues, the Ontario Anti-Racism Act, 2017, requires school boards to collect identity-based data on the following items:

Language(s) first spoken	Sexual orientation
Indigenous language(s) first spoken	(Dis)ability
Indigenous identity	Birth in Canada
Ethnicity	Status in Canada
Race	Time in Canada
Religious affiliation	Socio-economic status

Collecting data about these items helps identify and eliminate disparities and disproportionalities in student experiences and outcomes, and supports planning and resource allocation to meet diverse student needs.

Consent, Implementation, and Confidentiality

Consent: The census was voluntary. Parents and guardians received detailed information and had the option to opt out.
Implementation: Students received personalized links to the online census via their school email accounts. The census collected names, student numbers, and school locations to link responses to individual students’ achievement, program access, and discipline information.
Confidentiality: All data collected is kept confidential and used solely to improve student outcomes without revealing personal identities. Detailed privacy measures are in place to protect student information.

Response Rates

Grades 4 - 12: Approximately 74% of students participated, with variations by grade level.
Kindergarten - Grade 3: About 17% participation, with parents/guardians completing the census.

Types of Questions
The census included mandatory questions about:

Demographics: Gender identity, language(s) spoken, Indigenous identity, ethnicity, race, religion, and differing abilities.
Experiences and Attitudes: Peer inclusion, school participation, emotional state, representation of equity-seeking groups, and experiences of exclusion or bullying.

Impact and Benefits
By collecting and analyzing this data, DPCDSB aims to:

Identify Issues: Spot and address systemic racism and discrimination within the school system.
Improve Outcomes: Develop targeted strategies to enhance educational outcomes for all students.
Ensure Equity: Uphold Catholic social teachings by promoting human dignity, solidarity, community living, and rights and responsibilities.
Support Students: Ensure that all students feel valued, supported, and treated with kindness and fairness, reflecting the teachings of Christ.

Summary of Student Outcomes: Racial disproportionalities and disparities observed for students in Grades 4 through 12.

Descriptive Tables - Racial Outcomes: a companion report to the summary report of student outcomes. Information in this report includes numeric outcomes for each racial group, based on census responses from students in Grades 4 through 12 who completed the census themselves.

Summary of Student Social Identities: Social identities reported by students in Grades 4 through 12.

Summary of Student Attitudes: Attitudinal findings observed for students in Grades 4 through 12.

Summary of Parent/Guardian-Reported Student Social Identities: Social identities reported by parents and guardians for their students in Kindergarten - Grade 3 and older students who required parent/guardian support to complete the census.

Descriptive Tables – Parent/Guardian Reported Racial Outcomes: Information in this report includes numeric outcomes for each racial group based on census responses from parents/guardians of students in Kindergarten through Grade 3 and older students who required their parents/guardians to complete the census on their behalf.

DPCDSB Reaches Tentative Agreement with DPERWA

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) is pleased to announce that it has reached a tentative local agreement with the Dufferin-Peel Educational Resource Workers Association (DPERWA), the union representing Education Resources Workers (ERWs) and Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECEs) at the board.

“We value our relationships with our bargaining units and are pleased to be able to make this announcement,” said Marianne Mazzorato, Director of Education. “This is great news for parents, guardians, students and staff alike, and ensures a continuity of learning with no disruption to services.”

The tentative agreement is subject to ratification by both parties.

2024-2025 Budget

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) will once again develop a budget while operating under a Multi-Year Financial Recovery Plan (MYFRP) with the Ministry of Education. DPCDSB continues to work with the Ministry of Education in addressing the significant expenditure concern with a Long Term Disability (LTD) benefit plan that has created an accumulated deficit position. ��Ƶ will operate under the MYFRP until the issue has been resolved.

The Ministry of Education provides funding to school boards through the Grants for Student Needs (GSN) funding formula. GSN information will be available on the Ministry of Education website through the link provided below as well as through the budget reports presented to the Board of Trustees. Despite limited budgetary resources, DPCDSB is committed to ensuring our stakeholders have access to information regarding the budget development process and opportunities to provide input.

Public Budget Information and Consultation

During the 2024-2025 budget development process, DPCDSB offered a Public Budget Information Session webcast on April 24, 2024. This session provided an opportunity for our community stakeholders to receive financial information and updates on the DPCDSB deficit position. Sharing information, and receiving input from, our community members helps to inform the budget process. The accumulated deficit position of DPCDSB, and limited funding resources available, does limit the actual expenditure decisions that can be made.
